OrderPaperToday – A bill for an act to establish Federal College of Education, Lissam, Taraba State has passed second reading at the House of Representatives.
The bill Sponsored by Rimamnde Kwewum (PDP, Taraba), is entitled ‘a Bill for an Act to Provide for the Establishment of Federal College of Education, Lissam, Taraba State for the Purposes of Providing Qualitative Education in Sciences, Arts, Social Sciences and Other Technical Knowledge and for Related Matters.’
Leading the debate, kwewum noted that one of the main challenges facing education is lack of quality teachers.
He said that if the bill is passed, the proposed College of Education Lissam will reduce the challenges of having quality educators.
Supporting the Bill, Aisha Dukku (APC, Gombe), stated that “teachers cannot give what they don’t have; this College if established, will go a long way to produce more quality teachers.
Also supporting the bill, Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Plateau) said that “we need to make provision for the development of the teachers, who are in turn to take responsibilities for the development of our children, we must invest in teachers’ education, because infrastructure are like hardware, while teachers are like software.”
The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, after putting the question with the ‘ayes’ having it, directed the bill to committee on Tertiary Education for further legislative work.
