OrderPaperToday – As part of efforts of the state government to diversify the economy using agriculture, the Kwara House of Assembly has given approval to the executive to access N1bn credit facility under the anchor borrowers programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The assembly also resolved to suspend last Thursday’s plenary session to allow members visit the states’ 300 hectre soya beans firm located at Ejidongari in Moro local government area.
The approval for the credit facility is sequel to a request by the state governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed to the speaker, Ali Ahmad.
The assembly agreed with the governor that since the credit facility is for the peasant farmers, it is going to go a long way to increase food production, create jobs, and wealth for the beneficiaries and the state in general.
It would be recalled that the legislature, as part of efforts at ensuring that the state used agriculture to stimulate increased food production, job and wealth creations early in the year, ventured into farming by cultivating 300 hectares of soya beans.
The Speaker while reading the resolution of the assembly, said: “The approval became imperative to assist the state in using agriculture, as catalyst for industrialization, economic emancipation and sustainable tool for women and youths development.”
He also directed the committee on agriculture and natural resources to brief the house on
