OrderPaperToday – The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has expressed happiness over what it called a prompt intervention by the Kwara State House of Assembly to solve the problem of teachers’ salaries in the state.
The State NUT Chairman, Musa Abubakar who said this during a courtesy call on the Speaker, Ali Ahmad in his office, noted that the commitment of the House towards providing immediate and permanent solutions to the payment of teachers salaries in the state is highly commendable.
Abubakar said the House had played significant role in ensuring that teachers had a fair share of the Paris Club refund as payment of their outstanding salaries and in ensuring that funding of teachers salaries was removed from the Local Government Councils in the on going constitution amendment.
He said with these, the House had demonstrated that the well-being of teachers, who according to him, were moulders of future leaders, was paramount to the parliament in the state.
The State NUT boss assured that teachers would reciprocate the gesture, by rededicating themselves to the educational well-being of children in the state and urged the House not to relent in providing enduring solution to the problem of payment of teachers salaries in the state.
The Speaker who expressed confidence in the hierarchy of NUT in the state, emphasized that Kwara State had been a pacesetter to other states especially in the area of Community Health Insurance Scheme.
