Reps celebrates Nigerians who won elections into UK parliament

OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives on Thursday adopted a motion to celebrate and congratulate notable Nigerians who have worked for various government departments in the United Kingdom and won elections into the Parliament.

The House expressed delight that that Nigerians abroad have made landmark achievements in the field of Nursing, Customs and Exercise, Politics,  Academics and Sports.

Moving the motion, Mrs. Rita Oji (PDP, Lagos) who is chairs the House committee on Diaspora said there was no better time to thank them for meritorious representation of the country than now.

According to her, “the tireless work of those notable Nigerians have touched the lives of thousands in diaspora.”

The House resolved to congratulate those notable Nigerians with an ovation, invite them to be celebrated at plenary for their laudable achievements.

The House further mandated its committee on Diaspora to send letters of congratulations to each of them on behalf of the House.

Recall that at the end of the elections held on 8 June 2017 in the United Kingdom, seven Nigeria-born Britons were elected into the House of Commons, namely ; Chuka Umunna, Fiona Onasanya, Bim Afolami, Chi Onwurah, Kate Osamor, Kemi Badenock, and Helen Grant.
