OrderPaperToday – The Senate on Thursday approved a projected Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N867,000,043.50 and a Revenue Expenditure Budget of N650,402,500.00 for the National Environmental Standards Regulatory Agency (NESRA) for the 2017 financial year.
The approval followed the consideration of the report on the Agency by Senate’s Committee on Environment, chaired by Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central).
Senator Tinubu while reading out her report on the floor of the Senate observed that the Agency was more focused on generating revenue rather than putting more efforts in carrying out its primary assignment of protecting the environment. Furthermore, she urged the Agency to intensify its efforts in acquiring land for office development in order to save cost of rent.
Meanwhile, 16 Committees billed to present their report on Thursday in respect to the 2017 Budget of Corporations and Agencies of Government, failed to do so.
Their inability to present on Thursday was mainly due to the directive of the Senate
President that all reports capture the 2016 Budget of agencies.
Also, other committees had pleaded for more time to conclude their reports prior to the Senate President’s directive.
Those affected are the committees on Finance; Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions; Aviation; Information and Communication Technology; Industries; Health; Education (Basic and Secondary); Marine Transport; Sports and Youth Development; Agriculture and Rural Development; Science and Technology; Petroleum Downstream, Petroleum Upstream, and Gas; Capital Market; Customs; Interior; Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy.
