Taraba assembly sets up 3 man committee on constitution amendment

OrderPaperToday – The Taraba State House of Assembly has set up a 3 man committee in respect of the ongoing amendment of the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly.

This move was made to help coordinate and harmonise it’s positions.

The speaker of the state assembly,  Abel Diah made this closure on Wednesday during plenary and reiterated the assembly’s commitment to ensure decisions are made to reflect the wishs of the people.

The committee is to be chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Mohammadu Gwampo while Mr Hosea Ibi and Bashir Mohammed are listed as members.

According to Diah, the aim of the proposed amendment is crucial because it would deepen the nation’s democracy, and urged the committee to be thorough and strive to capture the true positions of Taraba people on the issues.

The state assembly members were advised to consult with their respective constituencies on the proposed items for amendment.

The speaker said: “Our decisions must reflect the wishes and desires of the good people of Taraba State; we cannot compromise that.”
