OrderPaperToday – Eight governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara state, have filed a petition against the incumbent Governor, Abdulaziz Yari at National Judicial Council.
Their move was followed by an appeal filed by Yari to enforce the judgement of a state High Court in Zamfara to secure the participation of the APC in the state elections.
A state high court had earlier pronounced that the party could field candidates in apparent upturning of the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to preclude the party from participating in the elections.
The ban was as a result of electoral violence in the party’s primaries.
However, a Federal high court in Abuja reinforced INEC’s position.
But a statement on Sunday, signed by these eight aspirants as a faction against Yari, revealed that “a novice application” was filed last friday by the Governor, seeking the interim enforcement of the judgement of a Zamfara State High Court.
The aspirants in the opposing faction include: Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, the Zamfara state deputy governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakala, former governor of the state, Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi,Minster of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, Rep Aminu Sani Jaji, Engineer Abu Magaji, Dauda Lawal and Mohammed Sagir Hamidu.
The statement also called for the urgent intervention of the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the matter.
