OrderPaperToday – The anticipated passage of the 2019 Appropriation bill was was stalled in the Senate today owing to the absence of the two crucial officials recognized by law to kick-start the process.
The bill was slated as part of the items on the order paper to be considered by the Senate during plenary on Wednesday.
However, the absence of the Chairman of the Appropriations committee, Danjuma Goje and his Vice, Sonny Ogbuoji hampered the presentation of the report.
It is worthy to note that a Federal High court in Abakaliki on the 19th of April declared Ogbuoji’s seat vacant because he flouted Section 68 (1) g of the 1999 constitution by defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.
Before this judgment was delivered, Ogbuoji heaped blames on some standing committees who had failed to submit their reports to his committee for necessary legislative action.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki had equally promised that the 2019 budget would be passed on the 16th of April, yet no action was taken before the chamber proceeded on Easter break.
Meanwhile, due to the absence of Goje and Ogbuoji in today’s plenary, the consideration of the 2019 budget was shifted to Tuesday, 30th of April by Saraki.
He said: “I have directed the Clerk to make details of the budget available to everyone latest by Monday so that we will have the copy of the report when it is passed the next day.”
