OrderPaperToday– The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute former Kaduna senator, Mr. Shehu Sani and Alhaji Sani Dauda (ASD) over allegations of extortion and bribery.
Senator Sani was recently arrested by the EFCC following allegations brought against him by a businessman, Alhaji Sani Dauda (ASD), that he collected monies from him to bribe the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, the EFCC acting chairman, Mallam Ibrahim Magu and other judges for favourable judgement in a case involving him.
In a press briefing addressed by Comrade Gambo Abubakar Muhammad in Abuja, the group said since it has been established that money had exchanged hands between Sani and Alhaji Dauda, both should be prosecuted without delay.
NANS further said that the action of Dauda reflects his belief that he is above the law, saying, “It is now established more than ever before, his flagrant trampling on the state laws without remorse by agreeing to offer bribe to our most revered CJN and EFCC chairman in order to circumvent the wheel of justice as revealed in his statement with EFCC and as published on EFCC official line of public communication and as widely spread and published by various national dailies.”
“Recent attempt to induce and desecrate the temple of justice through allegations and counter allegations between him and Senator Shehu Sani, erstwhile senator of Kaduna Central, is a clear proof to doubting Thomases that Alhaji Sani Dauda feels he is above the laws of the land and can get away with impunity.”
Muhammad, therefore, demanded that “as a neutral arbiter, the EFCC must, without further delay, arrest ASD, who is the self-confessed giver in this case, because both the giver (ASD) and the receiver (Shehu Sani) have committed crimes against the laws of the land.
It will be recalled that the EFCC had last week declared that Senator Shehu Sani has a case to answer over alleged involvement in extortion and name-dropping.
Acting EFCC spokesman, Mr. Tony Orilade, had disclosed that Sani was being detained for allegedly obtaining $25,000 from Alhaji Sani Dauda in order to shield him from criminal investigations by the anti-graft agency.
“Let it be stated clearly that Senator Shehu Sani has questions to answer as regards his alleged involvement in name-dropping, and particularly that he obtained $25,000 from Alhaji Sani Dauda, the ASD Motors boss, in order to help shield him from investigations being carried out by the EFCC,” the spokesman stated.
