OrderPaperToday – The lawmaker representing Chanchaga federal constituency of Niger State, Umar Bago, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot stand in the way of his quest to become speaker in the 9th assembly.
Bago, who has vowed to contest for the position of speakership in the 9th assembly irrespective of the party’s zoning formula for principal officers, also accused some party stalwarts of trying to cause bad blood amongst lawmakers through the imposition of some persons as principal officers.
Mr. Bago said the north central has been marginalised in the zoning formula for the leadership positions in the National Assembly. He made his position known while speaking with journalists in Abuja during the week.
He said: “Even without federal character I feel every zone in this country must have a sense of belonging. I would like to state emphatically that every zone has contributed in making the APC government today so no matter how little, every zone should be considered for position.
“One, we have a President of the country who is coming from the northwest zone, so looking at the six political offices we have in this country the northwest has been settled. Having the Vice President from the southwest, means that zone has been settled. Zoning the senate presidency to the northeast and the deputy to south_south that also means the zones has been settled.”
