OrderPaperToday – The Kwara State House of Assembly has rejected the Kwara State Public Infrastructure Maintenance Support Levy Bill.
The lawmakers based their decision to avoid unnecessary tax burden on the people of the state.
Explaining the decision, Chairman Committee on Information, Social Development, Youth Sports and Culture Mr. Saheed Popoola clarified that the assembly under the leadership of the Speaker Ali Ahmad is not at loggerheads with the Executive.
He said the lawmakers as representatives of their various constituencies needed to protect the interest of the people as the state was not ripe for the levy which the bill would engender.
According to the lawmaker, the legislature which he said was the conscience of the people, was not a rubber stamp, stressing that it would sustain its check and balance role as enshrined in the nation’s constitution to further enhance good governance in the state.
