Bill to establish council for food professionals makes progress in Senate

OrderPaperToday – A Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of Nigerian Council for Food Science and Technology and for allied matters connected therewith, 2017 (SB.92)” by Senator Ajayi Boroface (APC, Ondo) was on Wednesday read for the second time.
The two year old bill seeks to provide a professional regulatory body for food professionals in the country.
It stipulates criteria for practice as a “registered food professional” and also provides for a “disciplinary tribunal and investigating panel” to administer penalties for unprofessional conduct.
The establishment bill is made up of 6 parts and 28 sections and was referred to the Senate Committee on Science and Technology to report back in four weeks.
