OrderPaperToday – Two members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Action Alliance (Imo State), Mr. Paschal Chigozie and Mr. Kingsley Uju have announced their defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing irreconcilable differences and protracted court litigations as reasons for their defection.
OrderPaperNG had earlier broken the news of the defection this morning.
The defection was witnessed by the executive governor of Imo State, Mr. Hope Uzodima and former governor of the state, Mr. Rochas Okorocha, who now represents Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila had earlier read letters conveying the news during plenary on Thursday.
The development was applauded by their colleagues from the APC but countered by the minority leader of the House, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, who argued that there was no “irreconcilable differences” in the party as stated by the defectors.
Gbajabiamila, however, ruled him out of order for having “no locus to the matter” since he is of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
The defectors proceeded to brief the press, accompanied by the governorship candidate of the party in the 2019 elections, Mr Peter Nwosu and other colleagues, on reasons for defecting from AA to APC after their formal defection on the floor of the House.
Mr. Chigozie said, “I took the decision after due consultation from my constituents due to irreconcilable differences and litigations in the Action Alliance which have taken a toll on the party. It is on this premise that I decided to defect to the All Progressives Congress.
“We are very happy that APC has captured Imo State, the journey to paradise is not an easy one but we would sure get there. I’m happy we have left Egypt. We are to strengthen the party the more and it is even good the the APC is getting stronger in the State and in the zone to enable us get key positions at federal level,” he stated.
Speaking, Mr. Uju aligned with the reason his colleague had earlier expressed, saying, “due to irreconcilable litigations in the leadership tussle of the Action Alliance, I decided to defect to the All Progressives Congress.”
The national organising secretary of the APC, Emma Ibedero, who was also present at the event commended the courage and decision of the defected members, stressing that the lawmakers “joining our party today is an endorsement of the good things the APC and President Buhari is doing.”
