OrderPaperToday – Femi Gbajabiamila has emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representative for the 9th Assembly.
Gbajabiamila who is the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated Umar Bago (APC, Niger). He scored 281 votes while his challenger secured 76 out of a total of 358 members which participated. There was an invalid vote.
Bago was endorsed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was defeated by the 5th term lawmaker from Lagos State.
Gbajabiamila who was formerly minority leader and majority leader in 2007 and 2011 respectively. In 2015, he narrowly lost the speakership election as former Speaker Yakubu Dogara aligned with the opposition to emerge against the choice of the APC.
