Bribery scandal: Kano APC lawmakers back Ganduje

OrderPaperToday – Members of the Kano State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the National Assembly have endorsed embattled Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje for a second term in office.

Governor Ganduje has been immersed in a bribery scandal after a viral video emerged where he was was allegedly receiving bribes to the tune of 5 million dollars from contractors in the state.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the Caucus led by Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano) heaped praises on the Governor, saying he has performed “creditably well”.

“Indeed, Kano state is presently a massive construction site. We therefore make bold to say that the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Ganduje has brought unprecedented socio-economic development to Kano State such as never experienced.

“His foot prints boldly and clearly evident in Roads, education, health, Rural Development and Human Capital Development,” Gaya said.

Speaking further from a prepared statement, the leader of the Caucus accused the opposition of trying “every trick in the books to discredit and tarnish the image” of the Governor ahead of next year’s poll but vowed that the Ganduje and President Buhari will triumph in the state in 2019.

The caucus further alleged that there were moles working against the duo of Ganduje and Buhari within the APC:  “The most Unfortunate aspect is that certain roamers in the corridors of power who are more interested in their own personal ambition rather than the collective success of the Buhari Administration have keyed into this devilish scheme not only to undermine His Excellency, Dr. Ganduje but also to throw spanners into the electoral fortunes of Mr. President as far as Kano State politics is concerned.

“These roamers who also double as moles are empty vessels and bad belle politicians who played little or no role in the election of Mr President in Kano State before Mr President through his magnanimity brought them on board but are now capitalising on that privilege by trying to harm the interests of Mr President and the APC government in Kano State.”

The lawmakers however declined comment on the viral video of the Governor allegedly receiving bribe, with the Chief Whip of the House, Alhassan Doguwa noting that it will be subjudicial to speak about the matter as it is in court.

Doguwa added that there was no opposition in Kano state describing the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso as “empty shells” while Senator Barau Jibrin promised to surpass 5 million votes for the President.

“Opposition isn’t a challenge to us, because Kano is 100 per cent APC. I want to assure you that we’ll surpass that five million votes pledge for the president,” Jibrin boasted.

Only 7 lawmakers made up of two Senators and 5 Rep members appeared at the briefing physically, however 16 lawmakers signed the press statement which was obtained by OrderPaper Nigeria.

The Senators that endorsed the press statement are Senator Kabiru Gaya and Senator Barau Jibrin.

The House of Representatives members are: Abdulmumin Jubril, Nassir Ahmed, Tijanni Jobe, Alhassan Doguwa, Abdullahi Mahmud, Baballe Bashir, Umar Bala, Munir Danagundi.

Others are: Amin Goro, Mustapha Bawa, Badamasi Danbatta, Suleiman Romo, Muhammed Ali, and Muktar Mohammed.
