OrderPaperToday – President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated his aide on social media, Lauretta Onochie, who denounced #EndSARS protesters as cyber criminals, for appointment as a National commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Delta State.
The President also sought Senate’s confirmation for three other nominees.
Buhari’s request is in pursuant to paragraph 14 of part 1f of the first schedule of the 1999 constitution.
In a letter read by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, at plenary on Tuesday, the following nominees were sought for confirmation as INEC commissioners: Prof. Mohammed Sani Kallah as National Electoral Commissioner (Katsina), Prof. Kunle Cornelius Ajayi as National Electoral Commissioner (Ekiti) and Saidu Babura Ahmad as Resident Electoral Commissioner (Jigawa).
Onochie has been a controversial aide of the President, oftentimes attacking social media users who call out the Buhari administration for one issue or the other.
On the heels of the widespread #EndSARS protests, she had described those behind the mass action as cyber criminals.
