OrderPaperToday – President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated and forwarded the names of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) and other immediate past service chiefs to the Senate for confirmation as non-career ambassadors-designate.
This is contained in a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina, on Thursday.
The statement informed that a letter has been addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, in accordance with section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The said nominees are: Gen Abayomi G. Olonisakin (Rtd ), Lt Gen Tukur Y. Buratai (Rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed S. Usman (Rtd).
They served as the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff respectively.
“The President urged the Senate to give expeditious consideration to the nominations”, the statement added.
Recall than on January 26, 2021, Buhari appointed new service chiefs sequel to the resignation of the Service chiefs.
The senate had confirmed a list of 40-plus nominees for ambassadorial positions in July 2020.
