OrderPaperToday – President Muhammadu Buhari has sought the Senate’s confirmation for the second term of the former National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmud Yakubu.

His request is contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday upon resumption of plenary after a month of 2021 budget defence.

Recall that on November 10, Yakubu handed over to Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Mu’azu (retd) to oversee the affairs of the commission.

His confirmation however became controversial following a publication alleging that Lawan and Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger) received gratification to secure his second tenure.

Both Senators have denied the allegation.

Buhari in his letter asked the Senate to “expeditiously” consider the request.
