OrderPaperToday– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a date for bye-election into the vacant federal and state constituency seats across the country due to death of previously elected lawmakers.
The elections, according to the electoral umpire, will hold on 14th March, 2020.
The commission, in a press statement signed by the chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mr. Festus Okoye, said the election would hold simultaneously with other by-elections earlier scheduled for the same date.
The National Assembly had written to inform the commission of the demise of its members including Mr. Adamu Muhammadu Fagen Gawo, member representing Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, who died on 31st December, 2019.
Others are, Mr. Jafaru Iliyahu representing Magamu/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State who died on the 2nd of December, 2019; Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu representing Imo North Senatorial District who died on the 19th of December, 2019 and Mr. Ignatius Longjan representing Plateau South Senatorial District who was confirmed dead in a Turkish hospital on 10th February, 2020.
