OrderPaperToday– The House Representatives has stated that it will continue to hold plenary despite the rising spread of Coronavirus in the country.
Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu (APC, Abia), disclosed this while chatting with journalists in the National Assembly on Thursday.
The lawmaker insisted that plenary sessions will continue to hold because there are issues of national importance that must be tackled despite the outbreak of the deadly disease.
“The House will continue to monitor how things unfold, there are burning issues the house needs to address,” he said.
“If we close down and go, some of those things will not be addressed. There are burning issues in the country that the House needs to stay back and resolve; that is why we cannot leave now,” the lawmaker explained.
Recall that the House on Wednesday announced some precautionary measures to curtail the spread of the killer virus including banning of visitors from entering the National Assembly Complex and urging the government to shut down worship centres. Also, the House resolved that the Minister of Health must meet with House leadership on a weekly basis to brief it on the coronavirus pandemic.
