OrderPaperToday – The State and National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Enugu has upheld the election of immediate past deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the February 23 general elections.

Ekweremadu currently represents Enugu West Senatorial District.

A judgement delivered on Monday by the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Kereng dismissed the petition brought by Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) noting that it lacks merit.

Also the petitioners completely failed to prove their allegations of substantial non-compliance to the Electoral Act, thuggery, falsification of figures, according to the decision.

Kereng awarded a cost of N750,000 against the petitioners.

Meanwhile, the elections of Uche Ekwunife and Ifeanyi Ubah as senators from Anambra Central and South senatorial districts respectively were affirmed.

Ubah on the other hand of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) won Chris Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his brother Andy Uba of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Anambra South Senatorial Zone seat.
