OrderPaperToday – The National and State House of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia on Tuesday affirmed the election of Sen. Theodore Orji, representing Abia Central Senatorial District.
The Chairman of the three-member panel, Justice Adeyinka Adebirigbe, dismissed the petition filed by Sen. Nkechi Nwaogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over allegations of electoral irregularities.
The tribunal also awarded N500,000 cost each in favour of Orji, PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Also, a petition filed by a former governor of Oyo state Abiola Ajimobi, challenging the declaration and return of Senator Kola Balogun as the senator representing, Oyo south senatorial district was nullified on Tuesday.
Similarly, on Monday, the National Assembly and State Houses Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja affirmed the election of Senator Oluremi Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for Lagos Central senatorial constituency.
Adesunbo Onitiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) objected to Tinubu’s in a petition filed at the tribunal.
The three-man tribunal led by Justice Kunaza Hamidu, nullified the petition because it lacked merit and the prosecutor did not establish any prima facie case against the defendant.
