Defection looms as 8 APC lawmakers from Edo plan to exit party.

OrderPaperToday- The current wind of defections in Nigeria seems to be hitting Edo state, as reports suggest that 8 lawmakers in the State House of Assembly may defect to other parties.

All 8 rumoured to be considering a move are from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

OrderPaper Nigeria gathered from a reliable source that some of the parties being considered include the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

According to our source, the reason why these lawmakers are considering abandoning ship is because they are unsure of getting the APC ticket for next year’s elections.

It was gathered that the ban on campaigns by the Edo APC leadership heightened their fears, leading the lawmakers to believe that it might be too late to get nominated in other parties if they fail to secure the APC ticket. For them, the sooner they move, the better.

Reports suggest that the aggrieved lawmakers are also upset with the Party because  their constituency projects were not being funded.

One of the lawmakers who spoke to newsmen raised fears of a looming mass defection of Edo APC members, over the lack of political patronage by Governor Godwin Obaseki and the uncertainty over their future in the APC.

He said many of his colleagues do not know what they would use to campaign in their constituents even if they get the APC ticket. National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, had scheduled a meeting with all aggrieved APC leaders in the state for today to resolve all issues.

Earlier, OrderPaper Nigeria reported that constituency projects of some members of the assembly, specifically those in the PDP, were not funded by the state government.
