OrderPaperToday – The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has reacted to his arraignment before an FCT High Court on two counts of giving false information to the police about an assassination attempt on his life.
OrderPaperNG earlier reported that the APC Senator was dragged to court by the Federal Government through the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, for allegedly making false statements and admitted to framing the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Edward Onoja David, in the assassination attempt on his life.
Speaking on the matter on Tuesday, Senator Melaye expressed surprise over his arraignment, insisting that he was only naming suspects to the Police, which included the Chief of staff to the Governor and Mr. Taofeeq, the Caretaker Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi.
He added that his statement to the police has led to the recovery of arms and the arrest of suspects, including the Caretaker Chairman, before adding that the case is still in court.
In view of his imminent arraignment in Court, the Senator declared that he would not be silenced, even as he pledged to fight his case against the federal government with “the last drop” of his blood.
He said: “If this arraignment is to weaken me or stop me from speaking the truth against the maladministration that is going on Kogi state; if this arraignment is to stop me from criticizing the federal government, they have committed a capital, compound mistake.
“I shall continue to speak, ask questions, and criticize any public officer including the President of Nigeria where he has gone wrong.
“I have conquered fear and I am not afraid of the prison – it is built because of human beings but we will continue to speak the truth not minding whose ox is gored. The battle to bring Nigeria back on track from these criminals in power is a battle of no retreat, no surrender, I will face the federal government on this matter and fight it with the last drop of my blood.”
