Emma Ogbeche emerges NUJ chairman for Abuja

OrderPaperToday – Mr. Emma Ogbeche, editor of the Abuja Enquirer, has emerged chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council.

This was after he was announced winner of a keenly contested election by Mr. Henry Umoru of Vanguard Newspaper who chaired the credentials committee of the  exercise on Saturday.

Mr. Ogbeche scored the highest number of votes and was therefore returned as the  FCT NUJ council chairman.

Whilst declaring the results, Mr Umoru said he was excited the elections were transparent and fair and confirmed that “all the agents have signed” the results sheet.

The National Vice President North Central, Mr. Wilson Marcus, congratulated the new chairman and his exco and enjoined them to work towards completion of the FCT NUJ secretariat located at Utako which has been under construction in the last six years.

On his part, Ogbeche thanked members of the council for electing him to lead them while he extended a hand of friendship to the contestants who lost.

“I want to thank everyone of you who made this election a success because for me there’s no victor no vanquish. We do not have political parties in the NUJ; the NUJ remains one single entity and it’s on this note that we extend a hand of fellowship to all those who ran against us. I want to congratulate the credentials committee who stood firm. I thank you all.”

He promised to run an all-inclusive government and warned against quackery, saying “we shall crack down on them and ensure that they are caught and arraigned in the court.”
