Female lawmaker from Benue wins APC ticket to represent Vandeikya/Konshisha

OrderPaperToday- Mrs. Dorathy Mato of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing the Vandeikya/Konshisha federal constituency of Benue state has defeated Mr. Bem Garba who pulled just 6 votes compared to her 532 votes.

Reacting to her victory, Mrs. Mato extended her appreciation to the people for voting in her favour during the recently concluded primaries, which were held in the Vandeikya local government area of Benue State.

She also thanked Mr. Frank Ankara who stepped down and openly declared his support for her.

“I would like to thank my brother, Frank, who openly stepped down and declared support for me and also my constituents and the entire people of JECHIRA their show of love and support. I would also like to appreciate Konshisha/Vandeikya delegates for the block votes given to me and In fact all, the party leaders and elders for reelecting me their flag-bearer to represent them at the federal house,” she said.

Recall that Mato’s journey to the Federal House of Representatives began with the ousting of the erstwhile House of Representatives Chairman Committee on FCT, Mr. Herman Hembe, who was a close ally to Speaker Yakubu Dogara. In March 2017, Mato secured a judgement from the Supreme Court that saw her take over from Hembe to represent the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency.

In Benue politics, Mrs. Mato has steadily risen through the ranks, beginning with her stint as a Supervisory Councillor in Vandeikya Local Government Council. She then served as the Deputy Chairman of the Local Government Chairman before becoming recognised as the best performing legislator in the 7th Assembly of the Benue State House of Assembly.

In her constituency, she has continued to deliver the dividends of democracy through impactful policies for her community.
