OrderPaperToday – The Federal Government will send a budget proposal of N9.79 trillion to the National Assembly for 2020 fiscal year.
The disclosure was made by the Minister for Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed at a public consultation forum with civil society groups and agencies on the draft 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
It will be recalled that the Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to bring back the budget circle to January-December after the ministry Finance had announced that 2020 appropriation will be sent to the National Assembly this month.
The proposed budget mentioned by Mrs Ahmed will be an increment to the 2019 budget of N8. 619trillion.
Although the perennial issue of Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) has not been addressed, according to the Fiscal Responsibility act, the National Assembly is supposed to pass the MTEF which will contain the key assumptions for the budget, however, the national assembly is still on recess.
It’s unclear if the budget and the MTEF will be sent to to the National Assembly before the end of this month.
