OrderPaperToday– The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal before a Federal High court in Abuja over alleged grass cutting scandal.
The Senate had in 2017 through an adhoc committee recommended Mr. Lawal’s sack and prosecution for alleged complicity in diversion of North-East humanitarian funds.
He was accused of contravening the provisions of the Public Procurement Act and the Federal Government Financial Rules And Regulations in the award of contracs to his company to the tune of N272 million.
A presidential panel headed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, investigated the matter and recommended Lawal’s suspension.
He was eventually suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2017.
During his arraignment on Tuesday , the EFCC pressed a 10-count charge but Lawal pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His lawyers requested application for his bail and the court fixed February 13 for the ruling of his bail application.
