OrderPaperToday – A group under the auspices of Next Level Due Process Group (NLDPG) has called on the president of the senate, Ahmad Lawan, House of Representatives’ speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, and chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Mr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi, to stop the implementation of the ‘controversial’ amended National Assembly Condition of Service.
The group has also asked the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, and both chambers of the parliament to investigate alleged ‘irregularities’ surrounding the amendment.
In a statement issued at the weekend in Abuja and jointly signed by the chairman and secretary general, Mr. Abdullahi Tanko Aliyu and Mr. Chiedu Agbanusi respectively, the group also called for the retirement of Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Mohammed Ataba Sani-Omolori, and all officers due for retirement.
The group said it has “viewed with sadness the surreptitious manner the condition of service of National Assembly staff was amended at the twilight of the 8th legislature, where a bill titled ‘Retirement age and conditions of service bill’ was smuggled in by the past leadership.
“We are surprised that the bill is being implemented illegally without presidential assent, thereby allowing the Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Ataba Sani’-Omolori and other officers of the national parliament to remain in office despite attaining the legal age for retirement.”
