OrderPaperToday – Ekiti State Elections Petitions Tribunal on Tuesday declared Senator Biodun Olujimi, former Ekiti South senatorial district representative, winner of the general elections in February, 2019.
This verdict nullifies the election of the present representative in the 9th Senate, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Olujimi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the election of Senator Adeyeye in a petition on the basis of having scored the highest number of lawful votes in the election which was affirmed by the tribunal.
Reacting to the verdict of his loss, Senator Adeyeye in a statement signed by himself described the tribunal sitting as “nothing short of open robbery and a direct assault on the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary.”
According to him, the election held on February 23 was the “freest and fairest in the history of our state.”
He alleged that the judgement was purchased.
“And upon proper scrutiny the filthy lucre that influenced it will be revealed”, he added.
He said the judges “shamelessly contradicted themselves throughout the judgement. They went to great lengths to reach a conclusion that did not follow from the premise with jaundiced and twisted logic.”
He assured his supporters that the judgement will not stand while informing of his plans to appeal.
“I have instructed my lawyers to immediately proceed on appeal. And by the grace of almighty God we shall have justice”, he said.
