OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives on Wednesday directed the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Director General of the State Security Services, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, to immediately shut down the complex of the Edo State House Assembly and to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the area.
The House also urged the State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, to issue a fresh proclamation within one week in line with section 105(3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended )for a proper inauguration of the 7th Assembly
The House further informed that failure to comply with the above  recommendations,  the National Assembly shall invoke the provisions of Section 1(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to take over the State House of Assembly until the situation normalizes.
The resolution was sequel to a report of the House ad-hoc committee set up on need for intervention in the Edo House of Assembly crisis headed by Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas a week ago.
Recall that a week ago, Mr. Julius Ihonvbere, Peter Akpatason and Johnson Oghuma all from Edo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives presented a motion on the floor accusing the Governor of Edo State of issuing an illegal proclamation.
The action which led to division amongst the members and eventual lingering crises which has put legislative business on hold for weeks.
