OrderPaperToday- Senator Ben Uwajumogu (APC, Imo) has condemned the recent impeachment of Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, by the Imo State House of Assembly.
Yesterday, 19 out of 27 lawmakers supported the decision to relieve Madumere of his duties as the Deputy Governor, despite an order from the State High Court asking lawmakers to refrain from further actions on the impeachment proceedings.
Earlier today, the same court stopped the swearing in of Calistus Ekenze as the new Deputy Governor, just before the Attorney General of the State, Miletus Nlemadim, administered the oath of office.
Reacting to this development, Senator Uwajumogu described the impeachment as a ‘charade.’
Speaking with OrderPaperNg on Tuesday, the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District expressed his utter displeasure at the incident, saying:”I don’t support it. I am against the impeachment because it goes against the goings of the constitutional provision. The impeachment was not in conformity with constitution. It was against a valid court injunction.
“I believe the governor’s recent admission that there was a court injunction restraining him from swearing in the newly appointed deputy Governor is a charade because it is the same injunction restraining the [State] House of Assembly from going on with the impeachment.”
