OrderPaperToday– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the re-run election of Kogi West senatorial district inconclusive.
The election which held on November 16 was reportedly marred by violence and thuggery among other anti-electoral practises.
According to INEC, the cancellation of the election is because the margin between Senator Smart Adeyemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is lower than the number of registered voters in 53 polling units of 20 registration areas in the zone where elections were cancelled.
The difference between what Adeyemi scored, 80,118 votes, and what Melaye polled, 59,548, is 20,570, while the number of registered voters in the affected areas is 43,127, the returning officer, Olayinde Lawal said in his declaration.
He informed that a new date for the conduct of a supplementary election in the 53 polling units will be announced.
Melaye had earlier rejected the outcome of the election describing it as “magic results and helicopter election.”
