INEC promises automatic employment for NYSC adhoc staff

OrderPaperToday – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised automatic employment for all hard working National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who are adhoc staff in the 2019 general elections.

Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said this while reacting to a question raised by OrderPaperNG on the condition and well-being of adhoc staff, especially NYSC members during a press briefing organised by the commission in Abuja on Wednesday.

Recall that video clips and pictures of NYSC INEC adhoc staff  sleeping on bare floor in preparation for the presidential and national assembly elections that was postponed last week Saturday, have gone viral.

He said: “I must say it’s very disheartening because the youth corpers are the most intelligent, educated, patriotic and reliable as far as elections duties are concerned in Nigeria. We don’t joke with the welfare and well-being of our corp members.

“However, we have put measures in place to avoid that in this coming elections and of course the elections ahead of this one. I had an interaction with the Director General of NYSC and we are going to make additional arrangements like providing water, plastic buckets, and temporary toilet facilities.

“The DG NYSC is trying to see if he can mobilize mattresses for them to sleep on. The security men would also be deployed to take care of corpers’ lodges where necessary so that they would not suffer any of theft during the period they would be on this national assignment.

He then concluded by saying “we are going to make sure that all who do well in this elections would be given automatic employment.”
