OrderPaperToday – The Katsina House of Assembly has organised a public hearing on proposed laws for the establishment of the State’s Bureau for Public Procurement and Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
The hearing was conducted after the Assembly’s adoption of the two Bills sponsored by Mr. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki (member representing Faskari LG) and Abdullahi Mahuta (representing Malumfashi LG) respectively.
The public hearing was conducted under the supervision of the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki who is also the Chairman, Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Special Services.
Mr. Tafoki said during the public hearing that the laws when passed will among other things introduce and improve prudent management of public resources in addition to ensuring greater transparency and accountability in procurement process.
The Deputy speaker also expressed his joy over the participation of Non-governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders in the state’s legislative process which according to him clearly attested to the fact that citizens are becoming more informed on how they are being governed.
While submitting his memo to the committee, the Katsina State Head of Service, Mr. Muhammad Lawal Aliyu said that the Hearing was timely while commending the Assembly in trying to introduce fiscal sanity in the public sector because according to him, the proposed laws will greatly help the government in its fight against corruption and other irregularities in the public sector.
