OrderPaperToday – Minority Leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has expressed fear over connivance between some soldiers and kidnappers in the now increasingly troublesome abduction of citizens.
He made this reaction while contributing to a motion moved by Senator Dino Melaye (PDP, Kogi) over increased killings and kidnappings along Abuja/Kaduna high way on Wednesday.
According to Abaribe, Soldiers were helpful in the past by reducing incidents of abductions which is no longer the case.
He said: “I know on this floor when I was on the other side, sometime in 2008, we raised a motion on Abia state and the President agreed and sent soldiers. They helped reduce the kidnapping.
“But all of a sudden, we now see that some Soldiers are helping kidnappers which we can’t even say let us handover to them. We are in a very big and difficult situation. We sympathise with the people killed.”
The Abia Senator lamented over the inability of the government to find a solution despite several motions and resolutions passed.
He said: “What else do we do asides getting up and making this presentation? As I stand before you, I do not know but I can only say what is that abnormal thing we will do?”
He urged the executive and security agencies to remember and perform their responsibility of protecting lives and properties.
