OrderPaperToday – The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed the state’s Ministry of Works and Transport, as well as the state’s road maintenance agency, to repair the Offa Garage-Asa Dam road within 10 days.
The resolution of the House followed a matter of urgent public importance, raised by a member representing Oke Ogun Constituency, Mr. Kamaldeen Fagbemi, on the deplorable state of the road, which according to him, led to a saloon car falling into the Asa River over the weekend.
Members, who contributed to the debate, identified shoddy execution of projects and non-release of funds to the Kwara State RoadMaintenance Agency (KWARMA) as factors responsible for the sorry state of some roads in the state.
The Speaker, Ali Ahmad in his remarks expressed displeasure over the poor condition of the road, pointing out that, the State Infrastructural Development Fund (IF-K), had not justified its existence of addressing infrastructural deficit in the State, a view shared by the majority of members present at plenary.
The House unanimously resolved that the Ministry of Works and Transport in the state should rehabilitate the road within 10 days or risk legislative action.
