Lagos Rep eyes deputy minority whip position in next assembly

OrderPaperToday – With less than three months for the 9th National Assembly to be inaugurated, lawmakers of different political patties have begun lobbying and consultation for the position of their choices.
Though, no party has come out publicly to announce zoning patterns, horse trading has commenced in earnest and some lawmakers are already prevailing on their parties to consider their states and zones for certain positions.
It is in this regard that Mr. Emman Oghene-Egoh who represents Amuwo-Odofin federal constituency of Lagos State (PDP), told news men during a media chat that he is interested in becoming the deputy minority whip in the next House of Representatives.
He said: “First and famous, I must thank my people for giving me the opportunity to come back and represent them. I thank them for all the support they have been giving me and I pray God would continue to bless each and everyone of them. I’m assuring you, our constituency would continue to grow from strength to strength.
“In the 9th assembly that would be inaugurated soon, I decided to put my name forward by contesting for the position of deputy minority whip. My decision to contest for the position is not because I’m a second timer but because i have been in the political space for some time now.”
Narrating his experience he said, “20 years ago I was elected a Councilor in Badagry local government and later I was made a Supervisory Councilor under Ojo local government which was created out of Badagry local government. Then, in the third republic I was appointed the publicity secretary of NRC, so with all these experience you will understand where I’m coming from unlike some persons seeking to be principal officers their political career started here in the House.
“My experience is very rich and if I’m given that opportunity of becoming a Deputy Chief Whip, I will be helpful to my party and make sure that our policies and the manifesto of the party is followed to the later. The job is what I can do very well but if party feels otherwise I will drop my ambition because I’m a loyal party man”, he said.
