OrderpaperToday – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun, has said the lower chamber will reconvene tentatively on Tuesday next week to consider the virement request for the 2019 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Lasun made this known on Thursday in Abuja when the All Progressive Congress (APC) Caucus of the House briefed the press on the blockade saga that transpired at the entrance of the National Assembly on Tuesday.
He said the likelihood of the reconvening of the House despite being on its lawful recess was a fall out of a meeting held between the National Assembly leadership and the chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmud Yakubu on Wednesday.
Reacting to the blockade of the entrance of the National Assembly on Tuesday, the deputy speaker condemned the incidence and reiterated that the APC still stands as majority in the House and it is still united.
Speaking on behalf of the APC Caucus, the House leader, Femi Gbajabiamila appealed to Nigerians and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in particular not to use the blockade saga to malign the APC or the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, the nation should tarry a while for the result of the investigation to know what actually transpired.
Recall that on Tuesday, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) barricaded the entrance of the National Assembly thereby denying lawmakers, journalists and staff of the National Assembly access to carry out their duties.
