OrderPaperToday – The President of the Senate, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, has donated the sum of N8million to victims of the Yan Harawa market fire disaster in Bade local government area of Yobe north senatorial constituency, Yobe state.

Ezrel Tabiowo, Special Assistant to President of the Senate, said his principal made the donation when he paid a visit to the market where he appealed to the leaders of the Yan Harawa market association to ensure that all victims of the market fire incident benefit equally from all monetary donations irrespective of party affiliation.

The Senate President who assured the Yan Harawa market association that the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) would support victims of the fire incident soonest said: “I hereby donate the sum of N8 million naira but please, it should be shared equally to all victims affected by the market fire disaster, whatever donations you receive, make sure it is shared to all those who are affected irrespective of whatever political party they belong to.

“I pray that may we continue to experience peace in this zone, and also in Yobe State and Nigeria”.

Recall that earlier last month, the Senate President also sympathized with those whose stalls, wares and other valuables were affected in the market fire disaster at Potiskum Central Market on 8th March.

Many market fires…

Between January and March this year alone, 12 separate market fire incidents have gutted the country. They include the fire incident at Kugbo market, along the Abuja-Keffi expressway; Alade market in Somolu, Lagos State; Tipper Garage market, 3rd avenue in Gwarimpa, Abuja; Bode-Sadu market in Moro Council, Kwara State; Bababa Plaza in Wunti market, Bauchi State; Shehu Shagari Modern Market in Sokoto; Ijesha market in the Oshodi area of Lagos; Sabo market in Oyo State; Marine Base Timber Market in Port Harcourt, Rivers State; central market in Potiskum, Yobe State and Tudunwada market in Gusau, Zamfara State
