OrderPaperToday – Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim (PDP, Kwara) on Wednesday turned the screening session for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor-nominee, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, into a public relations deployment stunt for his guest.
Although he simply followed the clues of members of his committee who took turns to eulogize Mr. Emefiele for a job ‘well done’ in his first five years on the saddle, Sen. Ibrahim crowned it all by stoutly defending the nominee against an allegation that he was involved in a ‘stolen’ N150 billion taken from the coffers of the CBN.
An audiotape of an alleged conversation between Emefiele, Adamu Lamatek, the deputy governor of the bank, and other top officials of the bank was leaked on Sunday by Sahara Reporters.
Commenting on the allegation, Senator Ibrahim said: “Now, we know the reason why there are some videos on social media because in Nigeria, once you are a good person, some people will always try to bring you down. We will expeditiously take a report to the chamber for consideration. You can take a bow.”
