OrderPaperToday – The member representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano state in the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdulmumunin Jibrin, can be likened to the proverbial cat with nine lives.
Mr. Jibrin has fought not a few battles in his political life; suffered bruises in some but has almost always emerged triumphant one way of the other.
As candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) he polled 41, 070 votes to beat Ali Datti Yako of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 40, 385 in last Saturday’s national assembly election. It was a battle between the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya political movements in Kano and being a loyalist of the latter, Jibrin needed to prove his mettle against the rampaging forces of the former.
He was arrested barely 48 hours to election on allegation of being behind an attack on the convoy of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the head of the Kwankwasiyya political stream. He was however released on bail and went on to win the elections.
This particular assembly has been quite turbulent for the Kano lawmaker as he was suspended in September 2016 following his revelation of budget padding which he accused leadership of the House of orchestrating.
Jibrin, a former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation was reinstated on 3rd of March, 2018 after about 18 months in the cold.
On his victory last Saturday, he tweeted exultantly: “VICTORY AGAINST ALL ODDS.. the toughest in all elections I ran. Exhausted and completely worn out! It’s also an emotional exit as this will be my last contest for the House of Representatives. Now I just want to hug my darling wife and kids and cry in thanks to Allah.”
