Mass Burial: Rep Okwu commiserates with Benue

OrderPaperToday – The member representing Obi/Oju federal constituency of Benue in the House of Representatives, Mr. Samson Okwu, has expressed deep sympathy with the people of the State as the government conducted mass burial for over 78 persons massacred by herdsmen.

Okwu said “it is indeed a thing of sorrow beyond expression of words to see 73 innocent souls, women, children, the aged and youths, buried today, who were butchered to death by Fulani herdsmen for no reason at all.”

Mr. Okwu who is also Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Airforce charged the federal government to do more than talking in order to put a stop to the senseless killings.

“How long shall we continue to watch helplessly as such mindless killings of our people become a routine?

“We say to the authorities concerned today that such inhumanity must never occur again. There should be no more shedding of the blood of innocent people in our land by Fulani herdsmen. Enough is enough.”

Reacting to a statement credited to Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, that more people were killed under former President Jonathan’s administration,  Okwu said: ” I think it is a statement of failure, especially at this time that Nigerians voted for All Progressive Congress (APC) so that the insecurity would stopped.”

He continued: “During Jonathan’s administration these killings were not spread in the country as witnessed now, the insecurity was only in some parts of the North East and North Central but now there’s Enugu Massacre, Edo massacre, Rivers massacre and then Benue.”
