OrderPaperToday – 58 years old Nicholas Ebomo Mutu has become the longest serving member in the federal House of Representatives.
He has represented Bomadi/Patani federal constituency of Delta State since 1999 and has just won re-election at last Saturday’s polls.
Mr. Mutu who has consistently remained in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the party’s ups and downs came into the green chamber unknown. Instructively, he has remained much unknown nationally in the last 16 years of his legislative sohourn.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Mutu has been the chairman, House committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) since that body was created.
But his contributions to debates on the floor has not been adequately felt by many when compared to his colleagues from Delta State.
Mr. Mutu may not be a loud vessel in the eyes of the public but his secret contributions to the stability of the House makes him relevant. He is an acknowledged power broker serially recognized and patronized by successive leadership of the green chamber.
According to a colleague who represents Amuwo Odofin federal constituency of Lagos State, Mr. Emma Oghene-Egor, Mutu is a major force in the House of Representatives considering his contribution to the stability and achievements of the lower chamber which makes it compelling for the House to have his input in its decisions.
