OrderPaperToday – The joint Senate and House of Representatives committee on aviation has expressed satisfaction with the quality and standard of the international cargo and passenger airport located at Umueri community in Anambra east local government area of Anambra State.

Speaking at a tour of the airport site during the week, the Senate committee chairman on aviation, Sen. Smart Adeyemi said “by all consideration this is one of the best airports we have apart from the length of the runway I can see the height of the tower, I can see a lot of things.”

According to information available, the height of the concretized control tower stands at a towering 34.7 meters equivalent of nine (9) storey building. The airport design which allows for four hundred (400) passengers at a go accommodates planes landing from either side of the runway.

Mr. Nnolim Nnaji, the House committee chairman on aviation, on his part noted that with the pace at which work is going on, the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport will be ready for commissioning in one month time.

Speaking also at the tour the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial district, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, commended Governor Willie Obiano for the project. Expressing how proud she was of the magnificent project, the Senator emphasized that “irrespective of political affiliations, when you see a good work you commend it. I want to commend you my governor and to say I’m proud of this project is an understatement”.

Governor Obiano revealed that the Anambra International cargo and passenger airport is fully funded by the state government without any borrowing, noting further that this provides an advantage for his successor to start recouping investment and profit from the airport instead of servicing debt.

An inspection team from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) led by its Director-General, Captain Nuhu Musa toured the Airport site on March 25th and praised the level of compliance to regulatory measures and international best practices.
