National Assembly suspends plenary in honour of deceased members

OrderPaperToday – Both chambers of the National Assembly have suspended Tuesday plenary in honour of two members who recently passed away during the Easter break.

The deceased are: Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Umar Jibril, member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency in the House of Representatives and died on March 30, 2018.

Also, Senator representing Katsina North, Bukar Mustapha who gave up the ghost on 4th of April after a brief illness.

In a brief plenary after the votes and proceedings were adopted, the Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan moved that the remaining items on the Order Paper be stepped down till the next legislative day.

The lawmakers then observed a minute silence for the deceased.

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, also announced that a valedictory service will be held for the deceased lawmakers on Wednesday.

A similar brief procedure was observed in the House of Representatives before plenary was adjourned till Wednesday.
