OrderPaperToday – Joining the list of those earning senatorial seat for the very first time is oil mogul, former gubernatorial candidate and the chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, Ifeanyi Ubah.
Announcing the result at the collation centre in Nnewi North local government area, M.N Umenweke, the INEC returning officer, said Mr. Ubah emerged the winner among the 26 candidates who contested for the ticket.
Mr Ubah, a former governorship candidate in the state emerged the winner of Anambra South Senatorial election on the platform of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) polling 87,081 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chris Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 62,462 votes. Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, polled 51,269 votes while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Andy Uba, got 13,245 votes.
Ifeanyi Ubah was born September 3, 1971 to the family of Mr. & Mrs. Alphonsus Ubah of Umuanuka in Otolo, Nnewi.
The Senator-elect attended several local and international courses and seminars in leadership and business management. As a result of his creative leadership, his economic ideas, and his entrepreneurial ingenuity, he was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Management Technology (DMT) by the Federal University of Technology Owerri, in Imo State and an Honourary Doctorate of Philosophy in Critical and Creative Thinking from Montclair State University, New Jersey, USA.
Ubah in his early years was a significant player in the tyre export trade from Nigeria to Ghana. He was among the biggest suppliers of tyres to Ghana traders such as Kingsman Enterprises.
In 2001, he founded Capital Oil and Gas Limited which has since become one of the largest distributors of petrol products around Nigeria with a combined capacity to berth 3-6 vessels simultaneously and 32 loading arms. He is the founder of The Authority Newspaper, a Nigerian daily newspaper and also the owner of Ifeanyi Ubah F.C., a football club in the Nigeria Premier League, following its purchase as Gabros International Football Club.
In 2014, Ifeanyi Ubah unsuccessfully contested at the 2014 Anambra gubernatorial election under the platform of the Labour Party.
