OrderPaperToday – The Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged winner for Surulere federal constituency 1 in Lagos State for the fifth consecutive time.
In the just concluded election held on the 23rd of February 2019, it was a victorious moment for Mr. Gbajabiamila who has been in the green chamber since 2003.
According to Prof. Adetola Daramola, the Returning Officer for the House of Representatives poll, who declared the result for the constituency at INEC’s collation centre in Surulere, Mr. Gbajabiamila won with 14,617 votes.
His closest rival, Mr. Adewara Michael of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 8085 votes.
“At the end of voting, Femi Gbajabiamila of APC has satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes and is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the returning officer said on Monday.
Mr. Gbajabiamilia has been a fairly productive member of the National Assembly over the years. Amongst his Bills and Motions in the House are the Employee Rights Bill, Local content in Construction Industry Bill, Vocational Schools Bill, The Economic Stimulus Bill, Interest-Free Students Loan and Establishment of Nigeria Education Bank Bill etc.
He sponsored the recently passed bill on estimated billing which has earned him accolades across the country.
In 2015, Gbajabiamila presented himself to his colleagues as an aspirant for the Speakership seat in the House but lost narrowly to the present Speaker Yakubu Dogara. Due to his wide acceptance within the party and its members, he was overwhelmingly elected Leader of the 8th House of Representatives on July 28, 2015.
Upon winning reelection, the fourth time lawmaker took to his twitter account to express himself and show appreciation.
“To God be the glory. Thank you Surulere. Thank you Lagos. Thank you all.”, he shared on Monday.
