OrderPaperToday – The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said the comments by the foreign countries over the suspension of Chief Justice Walter Onnighen amounted to undue interference in the affairs of Nigeria.
He described as“most irresponsible” the comments of the United States of America, the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU) on President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, who is facing non-declaration of assets charges.
The governor said this while speaking on Tuesday Live, a late-night programme on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) network monitored by OrderPaperNG.
The US, UK and EU had earlier expressed reservations about the legality of Onnoghen’s removal from office unilaterally by President Muhammadu Buhari without the input of the National Assembly as required by the constitution. The foreign nations equally expressed reservation about the timing of Onnoghen’s suspension against the backdrop of an allegation by the opposition parties that Buhari wanted to take control of the judiciary ahead of the general elections in order to have the election results rubber-stamped by the court in the event that he lost.
