PDP loses Senator to APC as Senate leader hints at Ekweremadu defection

OrderPaperToday – The Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan on Wednesday announced the defection of Senator Joshua Lidani  representing Gombe South from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

“Let me formally inform this Senate that very distinguished Senator Joshua Lidani representing Gombe South is defecting from the PDP to the APC. Congratulations.” Lawan said amidst cheers from APC Senators.

Lidani then made his way to sit with APC senators despite attempts by his former party members to impede his movement.

Born in 1957, Senator Joshua Lidani was first elected to represent Gombe South on the platform of the PDP in 2011 and remained a member of the party until his defection today.

Shortly after the defection of Lidani, the Senate Leader hinted that the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu could be on his way out from the PDP although he was unclear about Ekweremadu’s destination.

“You may wish to invite one of the leaders of the Nigerian legislature and the Deputy President of the Senate and by the grace of God very soon joining…” Lawan said as he called on Ekweremadu to lay his report on a visit to the Kogi State Governor on the attempted assassination of Senator Dino Melaye.

There have been rumours that the Deputy Senate President could be set to dump the PDP for the APC following his alleged discontent at the emergence of Peter Obi as running mate to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar who is the candidate of the main opposition party.
